In past years, local businesses, stakeholders, and police met on a regular basis as the Upham’s Corner Board of Trade to discuss a range of district issues ranging from joint marketing to retail district safety issues. The Board of Trade, however, had no staff, which made it very difficult to sustain the quality of its meetings and link merchants to small business resources that are available citywide. With the advent of UCMS, the Board of Trade dissolved, hoping that UCMS could offer better support to merchants. Thus UCMS is committed to creating a culture of connection for local businesses, and creating an opportunity for our small businesses to learn about and participate in current developments in the neighborhood. UCMS is organizing Upham’s Corner’s merchants through the forum of “Business Networking Breakfasts.” The Networking Breakfasts are happen on a bimonthly basis and are widely attended by merchants, residents, local agencies, City of Boston staff, and elected officials, and other stakeholders.
